Artisans of the Universe

Deities are a fundamental part of Merlot, its creation, history, and influence. As such-- they are the creators, the influences and guides for those in the Merlotverse… the aspects that they hold power over are shaped, molded, and often times created by them. They are the balance of the entire universe itself as we know it, and shape or mold the world around them.

Though they do not all have an aspect as important as a concept like life or death, they all are incredibly powerful, typically immortal beings. It is possible for one to “die” due to very specific circumstances, but very rare.
 
They come in many shapes and sizes, from the ethereal to the ordinary. They lack solid forms and must construct a mortal body to interact with the mortal plane. This is what we refer to as "them", but it is only a fragment of what they are. Deities have the unique tendency of having no concrete form-- they often appear to whoever witnesses them as taking the form of that viewer's species. If you are human, you may see the god as a human (maybe with some unnatural features, but still human.)

Deities were first created when The One came into existence, and the first two were created by it. Ever since then, deities have been created by it even still, or can be created by another deity. 

They gain their power from the number of who believe in them, those who cast doubt upon them only weaken them. If a Deity has its last follower lost to time, it too will vanish-- one of the rare circumstances in which they will truly die.
